It’s been widely touted as a superb system, and indeed has been mentioned on these ‘ere very pages by many of our readers on a number of occasions lately, and now it’s time for the official OBE test of Money Talks!
So, for those who have no idea what it’s all about, it’s a backing system that is based around following certain trainers at certain tracks. Before anyone starts asking, no, it’s not a rehash of Trainer Flat Stats - it’s not even similar! In many ways, I think it will be stronger than TFS! Part of my thinking comes from the fact that it does require a little more work than TFS because it’s more market biased. That said, I don’t think it will require much work to find the selections and the fact that there’s a telephone line too will help me enormously! 
Money Talks comes in PDF format and is a totally comprehensive guide with plenty of background information and a nice, detailed explanation of the system itself. There are also a good few pictures showing you where you need to be looking for the information, so there’s no uncertainty when it comes to that. All of the information you need can be obtained from the online version of the Racing Post.
Money Talks doesn’t just focus on the win market, but also the place market as long as you can obtain odds above 1/5. That said, the maximum price we’ll be backing at is 2/1, which does mean we’ll be looking for a high strike rate. The author touches on a few staking strategies, but settles on level stakes for the win bets and a 10% method for the place bets. He states (and I quote) “A bank of around 10 points would suffice for level stakes“, but that seems a little gung-ho to me so I’ll play it a bit more conservatively.
For our test of Money Talks I’m going to concentrate on the win bets only because I feel that 30 days isn’t going to be long enough for us to see the place bets starting to compound and I’ll run it with a £1000 starting bank, staking 5% on each of the selections calculated daily.

Money Talks - Final Review
Well that’s the test for Money Talks wrapped up and I am pleased report that I am mightily impressed! When you consider that the system performed below its normal average and was tested during a period of atrocious weather, we still ended up with a very nice profit - and with the starting bank never in any trouble.
Let’s look at some stats for the period:
- 51 winning bets out of 87 - a 59% strike rate (below the 67% advertised average but still impressive for a backing system)
- 23 winning days out of 33 qualifying days - a 70% strike rate
- A £1467 profit betting to £100 level stakes (as the system recommends)
- An £852.76 profit betting to 5% of the bank calculated daily (starting with £1000)
Let’s briefly remind ourselves what Money Talks is about. Put simply, it is a system that follows a specific set of trainers on an everyday basis - we back their horses if they attract morning money and return at 2/1 or below (with some other added criteria I’ll discuss later).
So how hard is it to operate? After reading through the system a few times and placing bets over the first few days, I quickly established that Money Talks is fairly simple to use - and now it takes me around 5 minutes to find the daily selections. You also have the added bonus of 1 month’s free access to the telephone line and the author’s forum to check your selections against his. In addition, the author is very helpful and responsive to any queries. In fact, I found that he normally replied to my emails within the hour.
Every day, around 1 to 1.5 hours before first race of the day, I quickly scan through the market movers list on the Racing Post online (all explained in the manual) and it is very easy to pick out possible selections and then quickly cross reference against our trainers list. There is also an “A List” of trainers whose horses are backed regardless of attracting any early morning money or not (provided they meet the below criteria). Once we’ve established potential selections, it’s then a simple matter of ensuring the selection is sent off within the 2/1 price range at the start of the race.
And here is now the only negative part of the system - not the actual system itself, but the way it’s written out in the manual as it is initially confusing. In fact I know it’s confusing as I have looked at other online tests that are not following the rules properly. So I’ll explain here now so there no doubts. Once you have a possible selection, there are 3 pieces of criteria it must then adhere to before the off:
- Must be 2/1 or below
- Must be clear favourite (no other horse can be favourite in the race)
- There must be 1 point or more between the selection and the 2nd favourite in the betting
In addition, there are other rules on types of races to avoid and going. I personally would have preferred a simple summary to explain all the rules at the end of the system.
That small gripe aside, Money Talks quickly becomes very simple to use. Follow the above, and check the movers at the 1 - 1.5 hour mark, and you’ll quickly find you’re picking the same selections as the author. Occasionally I picked slightly different depending on when I checked the market but most of the time, we were in sync. I am sure you could also use a bot once you’ve established the morning selections, but I didn’t for this test.
All results in this test are shown to SP. By following the market, it quickly becomes obvious when to get on. As an example, if a selection opens up 11/8 (and the 2nd favourite is miles off) and goes into 5/4 with say 4 minutes to go, there’s no real danger of it drifting out of the price range of 2/1 so it’s time to get on. You’ll quickly see with this system that prices often plunge in the last 3 minutes before the off and I have seen 5/4 into 8/13 and have lost count of the amount of 7/4 - 5/4s etc… simple market checking means much higher profit (with higher prices available on the exchanges).
So why is Money Talks so effective at picking winners? Quite simply, the trainers and yards in the list are not only some of the country’s best but are also known to back their own horses and in the right races. If you see an early price movement on one of the selections, you can guarantee it’s because connections are backing their own mounts. I’m not sure about you, but I feel very comfortable knowing that horses I’ll be backing have also been backed by the very people who have trained and entered them in the race!
Our test saw Money Talks grow the starting bank by over 85% - and with a cautious 5% of bank approach which is impressive by any standards! So if you’re serious about making money from your betting, I’d recommend adding Money Talks to your portfolio.
It gets a double thumbs up from me!

Oh so close today but we ended up on the losing side..Sayyaaf in the 6.50 at Kempton was already a qualifying bet when he opened at 5/4…and in the space of 5 mins was backed all the way into 8/13 as punters piled in..leading by about 3 lengths in the final furlong, it looked like the gamble was fully justified (I watched this in the bookies on the way back from work and actually turned to leave thinking it was all sewn up)…until the eventual winner came flying back at him and won on the line..exciting stuff but somewhat frustrating!
